James 4:
1-10
1. Look into your heart –
desires that battle within you
2. Covet – desire eagerly something;
unlawfully
Envy vs. Covetousness
Jealousy – guarding what you want that you have
Envy – wanting what someone does have
Covet – connote something you desire but you have to break the law
to get it.
3. The focus is not on the
desire but on the way you get what you
want – nothing was broken lawfully but in your heart, you have already sinned
4. Bitterness – defiles many
5. God gave us a spirit
that envies intensely (designed to
desire God )
6. Grace of God – humble yourself
before God
Humility – is not
the absence of confidence but it is confidence in the right place
How to be humble (James 4:7-12)

Submit yourself to God

Resist the devil

Come near to God

Wash your hands
e.
Purify your heart – the world has desynthesize us to sin
f.
Grieve, mourn and wail – be sensitive to sin that surrounds us
